Retired Dogs
Below are dogs that are retired from mushing on the trails. These dogs have spent their younger years racing mid-distance and the Iditarod. They still make very short runs to stay exercised and they are still barking and wanting to run with the rest of the team. These dogs are kept at the kennel in a large fenced pen and sometimes will come inside. Nellie is a full time indoor house pet of mine, and has been for the last 6 years. She travels with me to and from Alaska. At one time I had 4 retired sled dogs as house pets. They do adapt to indoor living as long as you take the time to teach them. Before you know it, they will take over your bed.
This picture is of retired sled dogs that made a great transformation from running on the trails to living indoors. Pictured here are Pearl, Nellie, Indy and Thunder. These dogs all participated in the Iditarod and several other mid-distance races. They have made lots of trips with me to and from Alaska.
